Not a percentage. Not a cut. Not a service fee on one side and a booking fee on the other. Ninety-nine cents, once, per trip, off the driver's balance — and nothing at all from the rider.
This is the part worth saying slowly, because everyone else in this business does the opposite.
Others take a percentage. It comes off the rider as a fee bolted onto the fare, and it comes off the driver as a cut of what is left. Both sides pay, both sides are told the other one is the reason it costs so much, and the number gets bigger every time the ride gets longer — for no extra work by the company taking it.
Not 20%. Not 30%. Not any %. A two-minute hop and a two-hour haul cost a Cyca driver exactly the same ninety-nine cents, because they cost us exactly the same to carry.
We are not being generous. We think the percentage model is indefensible and we would rather win by not doing it than by explaining it.
The fare does not come out of a formula you cannot see. It starts as a number the rider types, because the rider is the one paying it.
You know what the trip is worth to you. Say that. If it is fair, somebody near you takes it in seconds.
A driver who thinks your number is too low is not forced to either eat it or ignore you. They send back the number they will do it for.
You take it, or you do not, and nobody has lost anything. That is a negotiation — two people agreeing on a price in the open — and it is a great deal more honest than an algorithm deciding for both of you and showing neither of you how.
There is no meter ticking in the corner. There is no multiplier that appears because it started raining, or because it is a holiday, or because a stadium emptied and the software noticed.
The agreed price is the price. If a driver wants more for a hard night, they ask for it themselves, to your face, in the counter — and you can say no. Surge is the same conversation, held in secret, with the answer already decided.
