Account Deletion
Plain summary
You can delete your Cyca account yourself, from inside the app: Settings → Account → Delete Account. No email required, no waiting for us to action it.
Deletion frees your phone number and removes your profile, settings, statuses, contact list, and chat list. Messages you already sent stay in other people's copies, and order records are kept where law requires. Details below.
How to delete your account
You can delete your Cyca account at any time, directly in the app:
- Open Cyca and go to Settings.
- Tap Account.
- Tap Delete Account and confirm.
You do not need to contact us, and there is no waiting period imposed by us before you can delete. If you cannot access the app — for example you have lost the phone number — write to [email protected] from a channel we can verify, and we will help you delete it.
What deletion removes
- the mapping between your phone number and your account, which frees the number for future use;
- your profile — display name, about text, birth year, and profile photo;
- your settings, including privacy preferences and blocked list;
- your status updates and their view records;
- your synced contact list, including shadow entries created from your address book;
- your chat list and your copies of your conversations;
- your push notification tokens, so notifications stop.
What deletion does not remove
We want to be exact about this, because it is the part people are most often surprised by:
| Messages you sent to others | Messages already delivered remain in the recipients' copies of those conversations. Like a letter you have posted, it is in their hands too. We cannot remove content from another person's account. |
|---|---|
| Content in groups and communities | Messages you posted into a group, community channel, or live session remain visible to that audience. |
| Order records | Orders — including delivery details, amounts, status, and ratings — are retained after account deletion for dispute resolution, accounting, and tax compliance. Sellers also hold their own copy of the order information needed to fulfil it. |
| Usage telemetry | Events already recorded in our telemetry are not retroactively erased, though they cease to be associated with an active account. |
| Backups and logs | Residual copies may persist in operational backups and logs for a limited period before being overwritten in the ordinary course. |
| Legal holds | Where we are under a legal obligation to retain specific information — for example a preservation request — that information is retained for as long as the obligation lasts. |
If you want a fuller erasure than in-app deletion provides, contact us and we will do what the law and our records permit.
Deleting a chat is not deleting your account
Deleting a conversation removes that chat and its history from your device and your account. It does not delete the other person's copy, and it does not delete your account. To leave Cyca entirely, use Settings → Account → Delete Account.
If you are a seller
If you operate a shop, deleting your account closes it and removes your listings. You remain responsible for orders you accepted before deletion. Fulfil or cancel and refund open orders first — deleting an account does not discharge obligations to buyers, and we retain order records that identify those transactions.
If you are not a Cyca user
If you have never used Cyca but someone synced an address book containing your phone number, a shadow entry referencing that number may exist. You can ask us to remove it: write to [email protected] from, or identifying, that number. You do not need to create an account to make this request.
Timing and confirmation
In-app deletion takes effect immediately: your number is freed and your profile and account data are removed as described above. Residual copies in operational backups age out in the ordinary course. If you require written confirmation of deletion — for example to satisfy a data-protection request — write to [email protected] and we will provide it, normally within 30 days.
